Emergency Medical Services

The Sisters - Camp Sherman Fire District provides emergency medical services to a 2000 square mile area in Deschutes, Jefferson and Linn counties of Central Oregon.  We serve the City of Sisters, communities of Tollgate, Crossroads, Squaw Creek Canyon Estates, Camp Sherman and Cloverdale.  We proved EMS services to patients on the Santiam pass to popular areas such as Hoodoo Ski Resort and Big Lake Youth Camp, Camp Caldera, Camp Davidson, and Camp Tamarack.  We also respond to HWY 20 to milepost 76, HWY 20 to milepost  64, and HWY 126 to milepost 10 to the west.  To the east our ambulance service area extends halfway to Bend and Redmond.

The Fire District employs 9 paramedics.  Under the direction of medical director Dr. Joyce Carnes, the Sisters - Camp Sherman Paramedics utilize state-of-the-art equipment on our ambulances.  With over 90% of our calls being medically related, staying current on the trends in emergency medicine is a priority for the Fire District.  Our newest ambulance has many new features to allow us to better care for patients, such as radiant heating for hypothermic patients, CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) devices to care for patients with COPD and acute pulmonary edema, and carbon monoxide monitors.  Our ambulances also carry state of the art cardiac monitors which allow us to perform 12-lead ekg's, monitor blood pressures, oxygen saturations, respirations, and carbon dioxide levels in the blood all in one machine.  We carry 30+ advanced life support medications to care for a wide variety of medical conditions.  We transport patients to both Saint Charles of Bend and Redmond.
